Veria / Kozani, 23 July 2025 – DESFA donated twenty-seven (27) defibrillators to an equal number of local communities of the Regional Units of Imathia and Kozani during handover ceremonies held on July 22 in Kozani and Veria respectively, in the presence of the Regional Governor of Western Macedonia, Georgios Amanatidis, who also addressed a brief greeting at the Kozani’s event.
The initiative is part of DESFA’s Corporate Social Responsibility actions and aims to strengthen the local resilience and health protection of residents in the areas located along the route of the Western Macedonia high-pressure natural gas pipeline — a project of particular importance for the energy transition and development of the region.
The communities to which the defibrillators were delivered include areas of the Municipalities of Alexandria, Naoussa and Veria in Imathia – such as Alexandria, Korifi, Lianovergi, Trikala, Neohori, Episkopi, Marina, Monospita, Lefkadia, Polyplatanos, Hariessa, Veria, Patrida, Trilofos and Fitia – as well as communities of the Municipalities of Eordaia and Kozani in the Regional Unit of Kozani, such as Agios Christoforos, Anatoliko, Pyrgos, Ptolemaida, Mesovouno, Perdikkas, Pentavryssos, Komnina, Asvestopetra, Mavropigi, Pontokomi and Proastio.

The placement of defibrillators enhances the preparedness of local services and citizens, improving the chances of immediate intervention in cases of cardiac arrest. The donation is accompanied by the necessary training of local bodies for the safe and effective use of the equipment.
“At DESFA, we remain firmly committed to promoting health, safety, and sustainability—not only through our core operations but also through meaningful social contributions in the areas where we operate and develop our network. Alongside the energy pipeline we are developing, which will soon connect Central and Western Macedonia, this donation reflects DESFA’s broader commitment: to be present, proactive, and responsible in the places where we operate. The defibrillators being delivered today are a small but vital gesture—one that could one day help save lives.” said DESFA’s CEO, Maria Rita Galli, on the occasion of the delivery of the defibrillators.
The Deputy Mayor of Finance of the Municipality of Kozani, Konstantinos Kourou, addressed a brief address at the event in Kozani, while Nikolaos Fourkiotis, Deputy Mayor of Technical Works, Urban Planning and European Programs on behalf of the Municipality of Eordaia, also attended. In Veria, a brief greeting was addressed by the Mayor of Naoussa, Nikos Koutsogiannis, while the Deputy Mayor for Social Policy on behalf of the Municipality of Veria, Thanasis Dellas, and the Deputy Mayor for Social Protection, Education and Culture on behalf of the Municipality of Alexandria, Elena Lafazani, were also present. On behalf of DESFA, the Chief Asset Development Officer of DESFA, Ioannis Chomatas, and the Senior Director of Corporate Affairs, ESG & Communications, Fernando Kalligas, were present.
The defibrillators will be listed on the National Defibrillator Map, strengthening the national emergency medical assistance network and facilitating citizens’ access to critical medical support when needed.
