Alexandroupolis, 5 November 2025 – DESFA, Senfluga and Gastrade have joined forces in a major Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in the Municipality of Alexandroupolis, implementing a total donation of approximately €330,000 to enhance civil protection and upgrade schools and sports facilities, with the goal of improving the quality of life for the people of Alexandroupolis. The joint donation was officially presented today during an event held at the Townhall of Alexandroupolis, in the presence of DESFA CEO Maria Rita Galli, also representing Senfluga for the occasion, and Gastrade VP & Managing Director Konstantinos Sifnaios, who together handed over the donation to the Mayor of Alexandroupolis, Ioannis Zampoukis.

Driven by the commitment to offer to the youth of Alexandroupolis modern and inspiring environments to play and grow in, the initiative significantly upgrades local schools and sports facilities, with the reconstruction of three kindergarten schoolyards in the center of Alexandroupolis, installing new and safe playgrounds, as well as the renovation of six school athletic centers that serve eight educational units in total, across primary, junior high and vocational schools. The upgrades involve the installation of synthetic flooring, suitable for all sports (basketball, volleyball, handball, etc.), in outdoor courts, creating safe and inclusive spaces for physical activity and recreation for more than 3,000 students.

The joint initiative also extends to the wider safety and resilience of the community, with the donation of two fully equipped multipurpose 4×4 vehicles to the Municipality of Alexandroupolis. Each vehicle is fitted with an autonomous firefighting and de-snowing system, as well as a salt dispenser, enabling the local authorities to respond more effectively to wildfires, floods, heavy snowfall and other emergencies.
In addition, the three companies also funded the supply of a 9-seated van, which will operate as a command and coordination hub in times of emergency situations. The van will enhance the operational readiness and coordination capacity of the Civil Protection Team by allowing the swift deployment of personnel and equipment wherever needed. These vehicles will also support evacuation operations, equipment transport, and the distribution of essential goods during crises — directly benefiting more than 100,000 residents.

On the occasion, the Mayor of Alexandroupolis, Ioannis Zampoukis noted: “We warmly thank DESFA, Senfluga and Gastrade for this important and tangible contribution to our Municipality and our citizens. Through this joint initiative, Alexandroupolis becomes stronger, safer, and more resilient. The enhancement of our schools and sports facilities creates better conditions for our children — for their education, play and development — while the new civil protection vehicles significantly strengthen our capacity to respond effectively to emergencies, from fires to floods and extreme weather events. This partnership between the public and private sectors is a model of how collaboration can directly improve people’s everyday lives. On behalf of the Municipality of Alexandroupolis, I express our gratitude for this meaningful act of solidarity and social responsibility, which demonstrates in practice what it means to invest in the future and safety of our community.”
“It is a great pleasure for us to be here today to celebrate the joint donation we made together with our main shareholder Senfluga and our partner Gastrade, as part of our ongoing support for the communities in which we operate. We have recently invested approximately 200 million euros in the region, and we want to continue to strengthen our relationship with local communities,” stated Maria Rita Galli, CEO of DESFA. “This specific initiative that supports civil protection, as well as the upgrading of the facilities of three kindergartens and the sports facilities of six schools, is a practical demonstration of this effort and the close relationship we have with local communities”.
“For Gastrade, Alexandroupolis is our home, and we are committed to giving back to the community, not just through projects, but through actions that make a real difference in the lives of its people” stated Konstantinos Sifnaios, VP & Managing Director of Gastrade. “Our collaboration with DESFA and Senfluga is a perfect example of how, by joining forces, we can genuinely support the local community. Because, at the end of the day, real energy comes from people and from the trust we build together.”
