There is no problem with the energy adequacy or the security of supply of natural gas in Greece

Posted on July 27, 2020

There is no problem with the energy adequacy or the security of supply of natural gas in Greece, as there is uninterrupted supply of natural gas at the entry point of Kipi, while there are high reserves of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the LNG Station in Revithoussa.

The National Natural Gas System Operator (DESFA) is in consultation with all relevant bodies from the Greek and Bulgarian side, in order to exchange information and optimally manage the situation, while a relevant Working Group has been set up. At the same time, DESFA is in constant communication with the Users of National Natural Gas (NNGS) to provide timely and orderly information aiming to ensure the lowest possible impact on the users for the continuous access to the system. This morning we declared Alert Status 1 (Early Warning Level) as per Article 1.1.1 of Chapter 1 of the Emergency Plan.

DESFA takes all the necessary measures and maintains all relevant specifications to ensure the smooth operation of the National Natural Gas System, monitors the development of the situation and is ready to take measures – if necessary – in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) and all relevant stakeholders.
