On Monday, November 02, the first auction was held for the distribution of uninterrupted natural gas transmission capacity at the new interconnection point of the National Natural Gas System (NNGS) with TAP in Nea Mesimvria. This is a historic moment both for the Greek and regional energy market, since the National Natural Gas System will be interconnected with one of the largest gas markets in Europe, that of Italy, also connected with Northern Europe through Switzerland and Germany, upgrading the country’s role in the regional energy landscape.
Soon, both Greece and the wider region of Southeastern Europe will be connected to TANAP and the Italian market, whose annual consumption reaches 75.4bcm of natural gas (2019 data).
The auctions were conducted on PRISMA electronic auction platform and cover the first, second and third quarter of 2021. The first auction was completed successfully with 99,96% of the marketed capacity to have been allocated to users.
