The operational parameters of the National Natural Gas Transmission System are controlled continuously and programmed by the main Gas Control and Dispatching Center, located in the premises of the Operation and Maintenance Center of South Greece at Patima Elefsinas and alternatively (in the event of loss of the main Gas Control and Dispatching Center) by the backup Gas Control and Dispatching Center located in the premises of the Operation and Maintenance Center of North Greece at Nea Mesimvria Thessaloniki.

The scope of the Gas Control and Dispatching Center includes:

  • Continuous supervision of the operating parameters of the National Natural Gas Transmission System via the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system;
  • The implementation of natural gas receipt and delivery schedules in accordance with the respective nominations of the Transmission Users;
  • Optimization of the operating parameters of the National Natural Gas Transmission System by means of pipeline network simulation software for securing the safe, orderly and efficient operation of the network;
  • Prompt warning and guidance of the maintenance personnel in the event of equipment malfunction; and
  • Support and coordination of the maintenance personnel and the Authorities (Fire Brigade, Police) in cases of emergency.
