We developed a Masterplan to achieve Carbon Neutrality!

Why Net Zero?
The decision to pursue net-zero emissions aligns with DESFA’s core values of sustainability and corporate responsibility. By committing to net zero, DESFA is actively contributing to the objectives of the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to well below 1.50C.
Moreover, DESFA’s net-zero pathway is also in harmony with the European Green Deal, a comprehensive plan by the European Union (EU) to transform the region into a climate-neutral economy by 2050.
Finally, embracing net zero enhances the company’s reputation, attracts eco-conscious customers, and fosters investor confidence in the commitment to sustainability.
Our Commitment
DESFA’s Board of Directors signed a Commitment on reducing Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 50% until 2030 in comparison with 2018 and achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2040.
For that reason, we developed a Net Zero Master Plan based on specific measures in order to achieve our Net Zero targets.

Finally, as we maintain an OGMP Gold Standard, we are committed to reducing our CH4 emissions by 45% by 2025 compared to 2015.
Our Decarbonized pathway
DESFA is currently progressing to implement the following measures towards Carbon Neutrality:

From 2015, we have managed to reduce our 5-year rolling average CO2eq emission factor (grCO2/Nm3 of Transported Natural Gas) by 48.3%

To reduce our Scope 3 emissions, we collaborate with contractors, vendors, and service providers on net zero action plans. Through meetings and surveys, we share knowledge and exchange best practices, aiming to align decarbonization strategies and support implementation. Our ultimate goal is to foster an environmental culture company-wide, engaging both our staff and collaborators, thereby influencing society as a whole.
Emission Trading System (EU-ETS)
We retain a Compliance Status A
In accordance with the European and Greek Legislation, DESFA implements a Greenhouse Gas Emission Targeting System (EU-ETS) at the Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal on the island of Revythousa and at the Compressor Station of Nea Mesimvria – Thessaloniki.
DESFA has set ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the EU ETS requirements. These targets include:
- Achieving compliance with emissions allowances allocated under the EU ETS, ensuring that our emissions do not exceed the permitted cap.
- Implementing measures to gradually reduce emissions over time, aiming to exceed regulatory requirements and contribute to the EU’s overall emission reduction goals.
- Investing in carbon offset projects, ensuring full compliance with EU ETS regulations.
By actively participating in the EU ETS and setting ambitious emission reduction targets, DESFA is clearly demonstrating its commitment to environmental stewardship and contributes to the EU’s broader objectives of transitioning to a low-carbon economy.
