Posted on January 29, 2019

DESFA participated as bronze sponsor in “Athens Energy Forum 2019” that took place on 28-29/1/2019, at the Grand Hyatt Athens hotel, in Athens and was co-organized by The New York Times newspaper, Kathimerini and SKAI, in cooperation with Symeon G. Tsomokos. Mr. Nikos Katsis, DESFA’s Operations Division Director of the National Natural Gas Transmission System (NNGS) was among the speakers.

Mr. Katsis presented the core projects that the Operator completed and currently promotes, in order to further strengthen security of supply of the Greek natural gas market and to introduce natural gas to new consumer areas. In addition, he made a special reference on the completion of the second upgrade of the LNG Terminal in Revithoussa. As he noted among other things: “The 3rd storage tank, that was put into operation before the commencement of the extremely high consumption of this winter session, has contributed significantly in the avoidance of crisis situations that were noticed in the previous years, with lower natural gas consumptions. In addition, the completion of projects regarding the increasing of the gasification rate by 40% will contribute to the raise of the quantities that can be transmitted in the neighboring Transmission Systems, north of the NNGS, implementing the European Commission planning for the development of the Vertical Corridor.”

In parallel, Mr. Katsis referred to the new technical capabilities of the NNGS, taking into account the new setting in the region following the beginning of the TAP pipeline operation, as well as the projects that DESFA designs and implements based on its 10-Year Development Plan. Finally, he presented the projects to be executed in the LNG Terminal of Revithoussa for the development of the Small-Scale LNG.

The Athens Energy Forum 2019, which was organized for the seventh consecutive year in Athens, has as its main target to map current energy developments in a period of intense geopolitical rearrangements, in the presence of providers’ representatives for the drawing of the energy policy and top executives of Greek and multinational businesses.
