We Measure, We Minimize!

Since its foundation, DESFA has been committed to managing all the activities and processes for ensuring protection of the environment, considering the principles of sustainability and maximum preservation of natural wealth.
In this context, we are operating under our QHSE Policy and since 2010 we comply with ISO14001: Environmental Management System. Each year, we publish our Carbon Footprint Report, to highlight the commitment of the Top Management, employees, and company as a whole, in accordance with the dictates of responsible entrepreneurship.
The Report estimates the total greenhouse gas emissions caused directly or indirectly by the organization. It constitutes an actual activity report and refers to the previous year.
More specifically it contains:
- Emissions
– Direct emission from the company’s operations (Scope 1)
– Indirect emissions related to the electricity consumption from the grid (Scope 2)
– Indirect emissions from the company’s value chain (Scope 3) - Waste Management
- Water Resources Management
- Adequacy of Technical Staff in QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety & Environment) issues
- Drills
- Audits
- Events
From 2015, we have managed to reduce our 5-year rolling average CO2eq emission factor (grCO2/Nm3 of Transported Natural Gas) by 48.3%, reaching the higher corporate targets.
In addition, by following the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Strategy, since 2015, we have managed 100% of our hazardous waste and over 200 tones of recyclable materials.
On 2011, DESFA was one the first European Oil & Gas Companies, which recorded its own Carbon Footprint.
Our Sustainability & Carbon Footprint Report is prepared internally by the staff of the Health, Safety, Security, Environment & Quality (HSSEQ) Division, according to the International standard ISO 14064 series methodology and the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol.
Our commitment to society and our commitment to the fundamental principles of sustainable development will remain unchanged. We invite you to read our “Carbon Footprint Report” and to learn more about DESFA’s activities and initiatives.

Environmental Campaigns
In 2022, DESFA nominated for the first time its HSE Ambassadors who were the winners of the HSE Championship, submitting to HSSEQ Division the most notable proposals for improvement on HSE issues.
Each year we organize our HSE Day in the frame of which all our staff is informed about our Environmental Actions and along with their results.
Environmental Rules
We have established rules to enhance environmental protection within the workplace.
