Posted on September 17, 2020

The contribution of the planned projects of the Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator (DESFA) to reinforcing Greece as an international energy hub, as well as to the upgrading of the energy security of the Eastern Mediterranean region was analyzed by the CEO of DESFA Nicola Battilana, during his speech at the Economist’s 24th Roundtable with the government of Greece, entitled “Europe: Reinforcing cohesion in turbulent times”.

Mr. Battilana referred to the NNGS ten-year development plan for 2021-2030, in which DESFA has included projects of 500 million euros and through which is setting the foundations for Greek territory to receive new development opportunities. At the same time, it was noted that the goal of the program is to set Greece as the point of entry for the Balkans and East Europe through the supply of alternative sources of gas and LNG.

Referring to the inclusion of DESFA in the project of the Liquefied Natural Gas Floating Storage Regasification Station (FSRU) of Alexandroupolis, he stressed the company’s strong interest in this promising project, demonstrating DESFA’s commitment to pursue possibilities that diversify the energy sources in the region, extending its boundaries to international projects and opportunities.

Finally, Mr. Battilana referred to the new development project of the Greece-North Macedonia pipeline, that has been matured for more than one year now, setting DESFA closer to taking soon the final investment decision, following the grant of all the relevant environmental permits and the successful outcome of the market test.
